Football: Guardiola urges title calm after Man City beat United

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom (AFP) - Pep Guardiola said both Manchester City and Liverpool deserve to win the Premier League title after his side brushed aside Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday (April 24) to top the table again.
Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane struck for the visitors in 12 second-half minutes at Old Trafford to inflict a seventh defeat in nine games on United, who remain three points adrift of the top four.
Guardiola's City have 89 points after 35 games, with Liverpool a point behind. Both sides have just three games remaining.
"I understand the pressure we have and obviously here at Old Trafford with Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard running behind," the City boss told Sky Sports.
"I told them we needed to play to win, it doesn't matter if we concede.
"Now, we go to Burnley and we know how tough it will be. It's important to be calm. We are still not champions with three gaurgesmes left - it's incredible with the points we have and Liverpool have.
"I told the players don't read tomorrow, don't watch the television, just rest and sleep a lot and go in there against Burnley."

"Both teams deserve the title," he added.
"But it can be just one. The team that is going to lose can't have regrets because they have given everything. Normally, with this kind of victory, you can it enjoy it the most, but we have to be calm."

Football: Grief in Sevilla as former star Jose Antonio Reyes killed in car crash

MADRID (AFP) - Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Spain star Jose Antonio Reyes has been killed in a car crash, his hometown club Sevilla said on Saturday (June 1). He was 35.
Reyes, who shot to fame at Sevilla before a switch to Arsenal, followed by spells at Real and Atletico Madrid, was on the books with second-tier Spanish club Extremadura.
"We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace," Sevilla, where he spent two four-year spells, said on Twitter.
The emergency services in Andalusia and the authorities in the player's home town, Utrera, said Reyes died in an accident on the main road from Sevilla to Utrera. They said another member of his family also died and a third person was injured.
Spain captain Sergio Ramos, who is also from the province of Seville, came through the youth team just after Reyes and later played with him at Real Madrid also tweeted his grief.
"Broken. Shattered," wrote Ramos. "I have no words. All the affection for the family. We will always remember you, my friend! RIP brother."
Reyes won a European Under-21 title with Spain in 2002 and went on to play 21 times for Spain between 2003 and 2006, scoring four goals.
He won Premier League and FA Cup medals at Arsenal and came on as a late substitute when the Gunners lost the 2006 Champions League final to Barcelona.
He helped Sevilla win the Spanish second division in his first stint at the club. He won the Europa League five times, twice with Atletico Madrid and three times in his second spell at Sevilla.
He also won domestic league titles with Real Madrid and Benfica.
After leaving Sevilla in 2016, Reyes played for Espanyol, Cordoba and Xinjian Tianshan in China, before arriving at Extremadura this year as a free agent.
"With broken hearts we announce the news of our player Jose Antonio Reyes' death in a car crash and we ask for you to pray for his soul," Extremadura said.
Monchi, who overlapped with Reyes as a player at Sevilla and is now the club's director of football, also tweeted his sadness and referred to wingback Antonio Puerta, who died of a cardiac arrest playing for Sevilla in 2007.
"Impossible news to believe, impossible to digest," wrote Monchi. "What a left flank you are going to make, Antonio and you (Puerta), up there."

Pep hungry for more

LONDON • Pep Guardiola hailed Manchester City's feat of claiming the first domestic treble in English football as a bigger achievement than winning the Champions League, after an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Watford at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus each scored twice, while David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne netted to cap a glorious campaign with the biggest margin of victory in an FA Cup final since 1903.
City also retained the League Cup in February for a clean sweep of domestic silverware, but again missed out on a maiden Champions League trophy as Tottenham edged their quarter-final tie 4-4 on away goals last month.
Winning the European Cup for the first time in the club's history remains the holy grail for Guardiola, but he believes his side have raised the bar in England for performing week in, week out.
The City manager said: "It means being consistent every three days during 10 months. I love the Champions League, but doing that (the treble) is more difficult than winning the Champions League.
"This is one of the best seasons I've experienced as a manager. We know each other better and the standards we need. We should come back after summer, try to be fit and we'll see."
But, despite his 27th trophy as a coach and his sixth since arriving at the Etihad in 2016, he remains hungry for his side to improve even further next season.

PEERLESS
This may have been a victory lap completed with embarrassing ease, with early Watford body blows parried in comfort before a form of footballing torture ensued, but this was arguably the greatest day in City's history as this treble was won ruthlessly, spectacularly.
PHIL MCNULTY, BBC Sport's chief football writer, on City's drubbing of Watford in the FA Cup final.

CLOSE TO PERFECTION
Welcome to the new order. Domestic games: played 51, won 43. Domestic trophies: three out of three. Five-goal hauls: 11. Defeats since Christmas: one... It turns out we really do all live in a sky blue world now.
'' BARNEY RONAY, The Guardian's senior sports writer on City's dominance of English football despite a stiff challenge from Liverpool in the league.

Guardiola, who was seen coaching Sterling in the aftermath of their Wembley victory, told BT Sport that "Liverpool show us how tough the future will be".
He said: "We won the Premier League by one point, so we are not so far away (from the competition) to be relaxed. This is the standards, the level we are going to face."
The Spaniard's unrelenting pursuit of perfection is why Steve McManaman feels "until he gets the Champions League, he'll still feel it's a bit of unfinished business".
Fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand also told BT Sport that with Guardiola at the helm, "the fear for everybody is they could dominate for many years to come".
The former Manchester United defender said: "He's not stupid. Liverpool are close. They mounted a proper competition this year. He knows he can't sit on the beach for too long. He'll be thinking about what to change, what to add.
"That's the scary thing for everybody else, the relentlessness, all trickles down from the manager."
Sterling also gave an insight into the demands Guardiola puts on the City players, saying: "I've been on holiday and (he's) made me think it's gonna be another tough season. Just keep improving myself, week in and week out."
While Guardiola will now go on a break before preparing for next term, he will not allow his plans to be overshadowed by persistent talk of a possible breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
City have long strongly denied any wrongdoing but, last week, it was suggested that Uefa may impose a one-year ban on their competing in the Champions League, following an investigation.
Asked if he had received any similar extra payments, like the alleged funds that his predecessor Roberto Mancini received to keep within FFP regulations, Guardiola fumed: "Do you know the question you're asking me? Honestly, do you think I deserve to have this type of question, the day we won the treble?
"This club makes a big step forward with the investment. Can you do that without top players? No way. Money helps to buy the incredible players we have, yes.
"But we wait, if we're punished, we accept it. If the opponents and contenders think it's just about the money, it is okay."

1 HOSTILE WATFORD GIVE SILVA AN EARFUL

They say time is usually a great healer, but the memories of their former manager's acrimonious departure last year clearly still rankles with Watford fans, who were asked to request tribute songs for Marco Silva to be played before Saturday's win over Everton.
Al Wilson's The Snake and Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson were among those chosen as the hosts created a hostile reception for the Portuguese on his return to Vicarage Road. It had the desired effect as Andre Gray's winner condemned Silva's men to defeat despite their striking the crossbar on two occasions and the beleaguered Toffees boss admitted there was a "lack of confidence" running through his side.

2 HONEYMOON OVER FOR SAINTS BOSS HASENHUTTL

The anger emanating from Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl after Saturday's last-gasp 2-1 loss at home to fellow strugglers Cardiff was all the more understandable given what lies ahead.
The glow surrounding the Saints has quickly diminished after two wins in 10 matches since Christmas, and they now face a testing run of games, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs to play in three of their next four matches.
While Southampton have scored in their past seven matches, they remain too predictable in attack, especially without the injured Danny Ings.

3 SETTLED DEFENCE PAYS DIVIDENDS FOR BURNLEY

Burnley's defence and goalkeeper proved to be the difference-maker as the fine margins of the top flight were exposed at the Amex Stadium after they defeated Brighton 3-1 on Saturday.
Since Tom Heaton has returned in goal, the Clarets' back five have looked more secure, with James Tarkowski and Ben Mee the heroes in front of their captain.
Mee may not be the tallest, the quickest or the most cultured defender around, but he has offered consistency for years.

Football: Chelsea bounce back to win 2-1 at Cardiff to boost top-four Premier League hopes

LONDON (DPA, THE GUARDIAN) - Chelsea came from behind to win 2-1 at Cardiff City on Sunday (March 31) and boost their hopes of finishing in the top four of the English Premier League.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek headed the winner in the 90th minute to put sixth-placed Chelsea (60 points) within one point of third-placed Tottenham and fourth-placed Manchester United. They are behind London rivals Arsenal, who play Newcastle on Monday night, on goal difference.
Victor Camarasa put Cardiff in front but Cezar Azpilcueta equalised, despite being offside, before Loftus-Cheek won it to leave Cardiff still third-bottom, five points from safety.
The Blues rode their luck as with less than 10 minutes remaining, Cardiff were leading 1-0 and the mood in the away end was mutinous.
"We want Sarri out" reverberated loud and clear time and again, so much so that it was tempting to wonder whether Chelsea's manager Maurizio Sarri was fighting to hold on to his job.
By the time the final whistle blew, the Chelsea fans were celebrating a victory that kept alive their top-four hopes and left Cardiff crestfallen.
The killer goal was Azpilicueta's equaliser, in the 84th minute, and it should never have been allowed to stand. The Chelsea captain was a yard offside as he nodded home Marcos Alonso's flick-on.

Neil Warnock was furious, which is often the case although on this occasion it was impossible not to feel sympathy for the Cardiff manager.
Azpilicueta's goal will not be allowed to stand next season, when VAR is introduced in the Premier League.
Liverpool (76 points) will go back to the top of the table above title holders Manchester City (77) if they beat Tottenham in the day's late match.

Chelsea have been handed a huge incentive to claim a top three finish in the Premier League. With Tottenham Hotspur failing to beat Bournemouth yesterday afternoon, the Blues can climb above their London rivals today and stay there with a win on the final day of the season next weekend.

Alexander-Arnold up for it against Rashford

Alexander-Arnold up for it against Rashford

LONDON • Two-time World Cup winner Cafu recently reminded Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, 20, not to get "big-headed".
But Liverpool and England need not worry about his ego, after he recounted his uncomfortable afternoon in Manchester last season.
Old Trafford, where Jurgen Klopp's team head in search of the Premier League leadership today, staged what Alexander-Arnold describes as one of the hardest moments of his career last March.
That day Jose Mourinho tasked Romelu Lukaku with disturbing Liverpool's central defence with his physicality and Marcus Rashford with tormenting the young right-back with his pace. Both delivered, Rashford scoring twice inside 24 minutes from Manchester United's left flank and shaping the contest.
It was a day of despair for the boyhood Liverpool fan, but it also served as motivation for a player who would go on to feature in the World Cup for England before his teenage years were over.
"I still use that game as a learning point," Alexander-Arnold says. "That is probably the best thing to do; look back on the harder games you've had, the tougher games, learn what I didn't do well and what I could have done better.
"The Manchester United game was definitely one of those games.
"But, rather than let it get me down, or put me down and think that maybe I am not good enough at this level, it was important to use it as a positive and see it as a learning step to improve.
"I needed to use it as motivation to make sure something like that doesn't happen again and to prove that you are better than you showed on that day."
Tuesday's Champions League stalemate with Bayern Munich was Alexander-Arnold's first competitive start since Jan 12.
His return is timely for Klopp, Liverpool's title prospects and for the opportunity to gauge his development against Rashford at Old Trafford 11 months on.
Rashford has been in outstanding form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with six goals in 12 appearances for United's caretaker manager, and Alexander-Arnold's respect for the striker runs deep.
"He is a fantastic player and someone who has got bags of potential," the defender admits. "I am sure he will keep up his good form and it will be a good battle for whoever is up against him."

Football: Franck Ribery angrily defends his golden steak on social media

BERLIN (AFP) - Franck Ribery appeared to respond to social media criticism of his eating a gold-coated steak with abusive posts on Instagram and Twitter on Saturday (Jan 5).
On Thursday, the 35-year-old France and Bayern Munich star had posted a video of a visit to a steak house owned by celebrity Turkish restauranteur Salt Bae and rubbing his hands before tucking into a huge chop coated in gold.
That ostentatious luxury drew ferocious criticism.
The messages on Ribery's official accounts were an angry response.
"Let's start with the envious, the angry, surely born because of a broken condom," read the first of the posts on Ribery's Twitter account.
"F*** your mothers, your grandmothers and your whole family tree," wrote Ribery, having taken care to sanitise the French word "n*quez".
"I owe you nothing, my success is above all thanks to God," the post continued.
"To me, to my relatives and to those who believed in me, for the others, you were only pebbles in my socks."

The second message castigated "pseudo-journalists" who are always "negative".
The third was accompanied by a photo of a French celebrity journalist, and contained the quote: "I do what I want with my money."
German tabloid Bild reported that the meal was in Dubai where Salt Bae owns the Nusr-Et restaurant.
Bayern, where Ribery is reportedly in his last season, are holding a winter training camp in Qatar.
Golden steak is one of Salt Bae's signature dishes, a 400g ingot cut of sirloin wrapped with golden leaves that costs a whopping 1,250 dirhams (S$460).

Football: Spurs can cope without Kane says Pochettino

LONDON (AFP) - Harry Kane's absence will inevitably affect Tottenham's performances in the coming weeks, manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted on Friday (Jan 18), but the Argentine is positive they can cope without the England captain.
Kane is not scheduled to return to training until early March after suffering ankle ligament damage towards the end of a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.
However, the World Cup Golden Boot winner has a track record of returning ahead of schedule from injuries and Pochettino hinted that could be the case once more.
Spurs face huge games against Chelsea on February 27 and Arsenal on March 2 in the Premier League and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on March 5.
"Harry is a very positive person, the moment he got injured he started thinking about recovering as soon as possible," said Pochettino on Friday.
"When he is one of the best strikers in Europe it is going to affect performances.
"We are positive, we can cope and we have players who can cover his position. It won't affect our approach to the games."
Kane's injury is compounded by the absence of Son Heung-min, representing South Korea at the Asian Cup potentially for the rest of the month.
Yet Pochettino reiterated that the club are unlikely to dip into the transfer market for a short-term fix up front.
"It is not going to change our mind. We are open to adding to our squad but that is not going to put pressure on us to sign," he added.
"The market is very difficult. If we find the player that is going to help us and add quality we are more than open to make that happen. At the minute there is no player."
Fernando Llorente looks set to start for the first time in the Premier League this season at Fulham on Sunday, with Lucas Moura still out with a knee problem.
Midfielder Moussa Sissoko will be also be out for another two weeks after picking up a groin strain against United.

Football: Salah fires Liverpool into Champions League last 16

LIVERPOOL (REUTERS) - Mohamed Salah's delightful first-half strike gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield on Tuesday (Dec 11) that sent them into the Champions League's last 16 and the Italian side crashing out.
Liverpool knew that a 1-0 win, or a victory by two goals or more, would be enough to seal a top two spot in Group C, and Salah was again the hero for the hosts, scoring what proved to be the winner in the 34th minute.
Napoli pressed for a leveller in the second half, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson denying Arkadiusz Milik in stoppage time, but the home side's resolute defence - which has conceded just six Premier League goals all season so far - stood firm.
Paris St Germain's 4-1 victory at Red Star Belgrade meant they finished top with 11 points while Napoli, who started the day leading the way, exited the competition as Liverpool snatched second spot on goals scored after both teams finished with nine points.
Jurgen Klopp stuck with the midfield three that struggled against PSG in their last Champions League match and it was Napoli who found their rhythm first, creating some promising openings early on.
Salah was then presented with a glorious opportunity to break the deadlock, but his touch let him down at the last moment while at the other end, Marek Hamsik could not find the target from a good position.
Kalidou Koulibaly was doing a fine job of marking Salah, until the Egyptian produced a moment of magic to score the only goal of the game, skipping past Koulibaly before slotting in from a tight angle - his 34th goal for Liverpool in 2018 in all competitions.

Liverpool really should have extended their lead in the second half, with Salah firing wide from a good position, before Sadio Mane was denied by a fine save from David Ospina.
Napoli saved their best attacking play for the latter stages, with Jose Callejon firing over from close range, before Mane somehow shot wide when he should have scored.
Milik almost broke Liverpool hearts right at the death, only to be denied by Alisson, who raced from his line to make a game-saving block.

Klopp unfazed by early FA Cup exit

Klopp unfazed by early FA Cup exit

LONDON • Another year, another early departure from the FA Cup for Liverpool. In four seasons under manager Jurgen Klopp, they have not got beyond the fourth round and, this time, they did not even reach that far.
The bigger picture this season, of course, is that they have bigger prizes to aim for.
It probably says much about the FA Cup's place in Klopp's list of priorities that he looked more perturbed by a hamstring injury to Dejan Lovren in the opening minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday than by the 2-1 third-round defeat that followed.
The German believes the injury, in the midst of a hectic schedule, highlighted precisely why he chose to name a second-string side to face the Wolves.
"Hamstring, is what I heard - without any signs before," the Reds manager told reporters. "I asked everybody, no signs, nothing, just out of the blue, so that's the decision you have to make.
"I am not sure what you all would have said if immediately from the beginning, our centre-half situation was Fabinho and Ki-Jana (Hoever); then probably a few very smart people would tell me that I don't respect the competition or whatever."
Klopp made nine changes to the side that lost for the first time in the Premier League this season to Manchester City last Thursday, with Lovren one of only two players to retain their place.

  • 2011
Liverpool have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round for the first time since 2011, when they lost 1-0 to Manchester United.

  • 5
The Reds have been eliminated from five of their last seven FA Cup ties against fellow Premier League sides.

He gave rare starts to Simon Mignolet, Alberto Moreno, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge as well as senior debuts for Curtis Jones, a 17-year-old local lad, and Rafa Camacho, an 18-year-old Portuguese midfielder who found himself filling a hole at right-back.
Lovren's injury meant that they were soon joined by the Dutch defender Hoever who, at 16 years and 354 days, became the third-youngest player in Liverpool's history and the youngest in the FA Cup.
Goals from Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves either side of half-time sent Wolves into the fourth round, despite Origi's fine strike after the break briefly bringing Liverpool level.
Without forwards Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, the Reds struggled to get any momentum going forward.

Wolves, though, have made a habit of upsetting the Premier League's established top six in their first season back in the top flight.
After beating Chelsea and Tottenham and holding City, Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League, Liverpool can now be added to the list of scalps for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.
Klopp had a final roll of the dice by throwing on Salah and Firmino for the final 20 minutes, but even their firepower failed to spark a fightback and his selection will now be questioned as he is still to deliver a trophy in his four seasons in charge.
However, with Liverpool still in pole position to deliver a first league title in 29 years, the German remained defiant over his changes.
"We played a similar line-up and had three tough games in the last couple of weeks, so it was clear we had to change," Klopp added after a run of four Premier League games in 13 days over the festive period.
"The intensity of the last few games gave me the information it was not possible to start with these three (Salah, Firmino and Mane) up front."
Wolves will now face the winners of the replay between Shrewsbury Town and Stoke City in the fourth round, the highlight of which is a mouth-watering clash between Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Gunners, with 13 FA Cup wins, and United with 12, are the most successful clubs in the world's oldest knockout competition.

Football: Manchester United to subsidise fans by matching Barcelona's 'excessive' prices

LONDON (REUTERS) - Manchester United will hike prices for away fans when they host Barcelona in their Champions League quarter-final first leg to subsidise tickets for their own supporters travelling to Spain for the return, the Premier League club said.
United, who were allocated 4,610 tickets for the second leg, were informed by Barcelona that the price for away fans at the Nou Camp would be £102 (S$180), which British media reported was the most expensive ticket to a United game outside of a final.
In response, United raised their ticket prices for Barcelona supporters travelling to Old Trafford to the same amount and will use the extra revenue to ensure United fans pay only £75 for tickets for the second leg.
"Barcelona confirmed our tickets for this game were to be priced at 102 pounds. In this instance we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club," United said in a statement.
"Similarly to Valencia in the group stages and Sevilla away last season, we have again taken the difficult decision to charge Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount that Barcelona are charging for the away fixture (102 pounds).
"We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the 27 pounds price difference for each of our travelling supporters."
Last month, Bayern Munich fans protested against the cost of Champions League tickets by unfurling banners during the first leg of their last-16 tie at Liverpool, with the supporters of the Premier League club also backing them at Anfield.

United host Barcelona at Old Trafford on April 10 and the return leg at the Nou Camp will be played on April 16.

Muller sorry for 'gongfu' kick in 3-3 Ajax draw

AMSTERDAM • Thomas Muller has apologised for his gongfu-style kick to the head of Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, which saw the Germany star being sent off in Wednesday's six-goal thriller.
"No, no - of course I didn't mean to do it," the 29-year-old told reporters over the first straight red card of his career in 462 appearances for Bayern Munich in the thrilling 3-3 draw as both teams progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League.
He said he went to the Dutch hosts' changing room to apologise to Tagliafico after the match, but the defender, who scored the home side's 95th-minute equaliser, had already left.
Instead, he wrote "@tagliafico3 - I am very sorry for that what happened yesterday! Was not intentionally (sic). Get well soon" on his Instagram account.
Muller was sent off 15 minutes from time after trying to control the ball with his outstretched boot, but he succeeded only in kicking the head of the Argentinian.
Both his teammates and coach admitted that the foul warranted a straight red card.
"Thomas didn't see him," said Bayern coach Niko Kovac, "but it was a clear red - he should have been aware of the opponent."
Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka, who had witnessed Muller's head-high tackle on Tagliafico at close quarters, said: "I saw the scene as it happened. You only have to see how the lad looked afterwards - it wasn't good. As I saw it, it was a clear red card."
Goretzka himself was the victim of a dangerous lunge by Ajax's Maximilian Woeber, who was sent off.
It was a bitter end to the night for Muller, who made his 105th Champions League appearance, putting him level with former Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, who skippered Germany to the 2014 World Cup.
Muller will be banned for the first leg of Bayern's last-16 tie in the new year with the draw to be made in Nyon on Monday.
The Bavarians claimed the point they needed to finish as Group E winners, with an action-packed second half which saw five goals, two penalties and the pair of red cards as Ajax also went through to the knockout phase as runners-up.
Robert Lewandowski (two) and Kingsley Coman scored for Bayern, while Dusan Tadicć(two) and Tagliafico netted for the home side.

Pep proud Manchester City have raised bar

Pep proud Manchester City have raised bar
LONDON • Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City have raised the standard of the English Premier League, just as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus did in golf and Usain Bolt did in athletics.
City won the title last season with a record 100 points and this year could retain it with 98 if they win their final three games, starting with Burnley today.
If Liverpool, who beat Huddersfield 5-0 on Friday, win their last two matches, they will finish second with 97 points.
Asked if the bar has been raised by the two teams, Guardiola said: "The standards we created last year, people know that you have to be close to 100 (to be champions). Before it was 90.
"You know when Usain Bolt wins the 100m race - that's the standard and the others have to achieve it. Like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, the same.
"Liverpool know that to win you have to make a lot of points. That's what we communicate to anyone with our performance."
The City manager also insisted that he would seek to keep up the same elevated standard next year.
Asked how the level can be repeated, he said: "Find out what we can do to win the game, work harder, respect the opponents, improve on what we've done this season. That's the only way I know."
City, who scored 143 goals in all competitions last season, have 157 this campaign, setting a record.
"It makes me proud," Guardiola said. "I love to score a lot of goals to respect this game.
"We have 157 goals but we don't have one guy who scored 60, everyone was involved, Sergio (Aguero) and Gabriel (Jesus), they scored a lot, the wingers, attacking midfielders, we cannot score a lot from set pieces because we are a small team.
"It means the club are focused on playing an attractive game and I like that."
After the trip to Burnley today, City will host Leicester before travelling to Brighton.
Guardiola's men, who have won the League Cup and also have an FA Cup final date with Watford on May 18, need nothing less than three wins to become the first team to retain the English title since Manchester United did so in 2009.
That means a City team that have won 26 of their last 28 games, a run dating back to the end of last year, now also stand just four victories away from becoming the first side to win all three domestic trophies in the same season.
It is a feat Guardiola has already achieved in his career - with Barcelona 10 years ago.
But the Spaniard was not keen to draw comparisons.
"We are not thinking too much about the FA Cup final against Watford. I'm concerned with Burnley, Leicester, Brighton," he said.
"Just focus on that. We will analyse at the end of the season how many titles. It's not going to change my opinion of what we've done this season... how many titles we win."
City will be without the injured Kevin de Bruyne at Turf Moor today but, more worryingly, may also have to contend without physical midfielder Fernandinho.
The Brazilian injured his knee in the midweek 2-0 win at United.

Football: Ryan Giggs hits back after Zlatan Ibrahimovic criticism of Man Utd 'Class of 92'

LONDON (AFP) - Ryan Giggs has responded to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's criticism of the "Class of 92" by insisting players with "over 2,000 games between us" are entitled to have an opinion about Manchester United.
Former United striker Ibrahimovic claimed in a newspaper interview that the ongoing loyalty of Giggs and other pundits such as Gary Neville and Paul Scholes to Alex Ferguson has fuelled criticism of Paul Pogba.
Ibrahimovic told the Daily Mirror that the criticism of Pogba dated back to his decision to walk away from Old Trafford and sign for Juventus in 2012 when Ferguson was still United manager.
"Only Nicky (Butt) is connected with the club now but when you play over 2,000 games between us, we are going to have an opinion," said Wales manager Giggs, who made a record 963 appearances for United between 1991 and 2014.
"Sometimes it's positive, sometimes negative, but it doesn't have an effect on results. We are supporters. That's what football is about, having different opinions.
"But he (Ibrahimovic) obviously knows more about the club than us."
Giggs, 45, and his former Class of 92 teammates Neville, Scholes, Butt, David Beckham and Phil Neville, played a combined total of 3,450 games during the most successful period in United's history.
Ibrahimovic played 53 games for United after being signed by Jose Mourinho in 2016, before joining LA Galaxy in March 2018.
Giggs, speaking at United's training base, where Wales were preparing for Wednesday's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago, was also asked about the possibility of Manchester City trumping the United side of which he was a member in 1999.
United won the treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup that year but City remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple.
Pep Guardiola's team have already won the League Cup and are still in the hunt for Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup glory.
City survived an FA Cup quarter-final scare at Swansea on Saturday to win 3-2 after being 2-0 down.
"I've got enough to worry about, please don't bring that up." Giggs said. "They're a fantastic team, aren't they?
"They've already got one and United going out of the FA Cup makes it a little bit easier for them.
"They've got a long way to go but just like us in the treble, you need a lot of things to go for you. That bit of luck, which they had at the weekend.
"But they are a brilliant team. It will be interesting to see what they can achieve."

Football: Leicester part company with Puel, Rodgers favourite to take over as manager in close season

(REUTERS, AFP) - English Premier League side Leicester said on Sunday (Feb 24) that they have parted company with manager Claude Puel, with the club sitting 12th in the standings.
The 57-year-old had been unable to get them out of a recent slump with the club losing five of their last six league matches, and a 4-1 defeat at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday compounded their misery.
"The club would like to thank Claude for his efforts in leading the team during his 16 months in the role and wish him well in his future career," Leicester, the 2015-16 Premier League champions, said in a statement.
"Assistant manager Jacky Bonnevay also departs with the club's best wishes.
"First-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler, supported by the club's established backroom staff, will assume responsibility for the senior squad while the club begins the process of appointing a new manager."
Celtic manager and former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reported to be among the front runners to replace Puel in the summer, with the club set to install an interim manager for the remaining 11 matches of the season.
Puel was appointed the Foxes' manager in October 2017 when they were 14th in the standings and the Frenchman led the club to a ninth-place finish in his first season.
He had taken over from Craig Shakespeare after a year-long spell in charge of Southampton.
Although the club were in seventh spot at the turn of the year, they had a dismal start to 2019, suffering four consecutive home defeats.
Earlier this month, Peter Schmeichel, father of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper, said the club did not have a manager capable of getting the best out of the players and indicated that his son might be looking to move.
Leicester's Jamie Vardy had also been critical of Puel's style of play this season although Puel said there was no rift with the striker.
Their next game is a league trip to Brighton on Tuesday.

Ramsey moving to Juve on five-year $62m deal

Ramsey moving to Juve on five-year $62m deal

LONDON • Aaron Ramsey has agreed a five-year deal with Juventus worth £36 million (S$62 million) and will join the Italian champions on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old Wales midfielder has been discussing a move for weeks and will leave Arsenal after 10 years. It had been clear he would move on in the summer and Juventus had been the front runners to secure his signature.
He will be paid around £140,000 a week, making him Juventus' second-highest earner behind Cristiano Ronaldo but ahead of Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa.
Juventus, who have won the past seven Serie A titles, signed Ronaldo for €100 million (S$156 million) last summer and are on 53 points, nine clear of Napoli after 19 games.
They have reached two of the last four Champions League finals, losing to Barcelona in 2015 and Real Madrid in 2017.
They have reached the last 16 of Europe's top club competition this season, where they will face another Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Juventus manager Max Allegri and director Fabio Paratici are huge admirers of Ramsey, who is set to be given a place in the starting XI, most likely with Miralem Pjanic and Blaise Matuidi in a three-man midfield.
He is likely to replace one of Emre Can, Rodrigo Bentancur and Sami Khedira, with the latter possibly leaving in the summer.
Ramsey signed for Arsenal from Cardiff for £4.8 million. He has played 252 top-flight games for the club, scoring 52 goals. He won three FA Cups, scoring the winning goal in the 2014 and 2017 finals.
He played arguably the best football of his career during Euro 2016 when Wales reached the semi-finals. But he was suspended for that match, which they lost 2-0 to eventual winners Portugal.
He has had his fair share of injury problems but Juventus are delighted to secure him on a free.
For Arsenal, who are playing in the second-tier Europa League for a second straight season, they will regret seeing a player in his prime leave under these circumstances.
With Arsenal choosing to renew the contract of Mesut Ozil, another star whose deal was due to expire this summer, they put themselves in a position where they could not re-sign Ramsey too, without keeping their £200 million annual wage bill under control.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery also had major reservations over both Ozil and Ramsey fitting into his plans and the style he wants to play.
